The Story of Jersey Shore Awning Company

For 73 years, Jersey Shore Awning has been designing, fabricating, and installing premium custom awnings for the community. This multi-generational family business has a reputation in the Jersey Shore area that’s both iconic and recognizable, and they pride themselves on bringing premium brands and quality products to their customers. Located in Wall Township, NJ, they use a modern 10,000-square-foot facility to offer high-quality residential and commercial shade solutions, including the full range of retractable awnings, stationary awnings, cabanas, transporter canopies, and frames protective covers.

The commercial awnings story began when Ora X. McClellan opened Shore Awning in 1947. Initially, the storefront shop focused on window awnings and upholstery. As his three children, Ruth Ann, Nancy, and Mike, grew up, they would help out after school or on weekends. They learned every aspect of the business from sweeping floors and cleaning trucks to fabrication, installation, design, and more. In 2015, Mike retired and Wade became the third generation CEO of Jersey Shore Awning.

As demand increased, Wade felt it necessary to reevaluate the operation and look for ways to increase efficiency without jeopardizing his team or production output. He partnered with NJMEP to learn about LEAN, which is a systematic process for improving businesses. The process was started by assessing the entire operation and creating a rough blueprint of how to optimize the company. It then involved working with a mentor to make improvements and to implement new Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software.
